85 G1 smoking and stinking up the course.
Ok guys I need your help please. After reading all about how tough the yamaha g1's were. I bought one. nice little cart that needed a little tlc, but it ran great. I like fixing old things up, so i dove right in and fixed her all up nice before I ever used her on the course. Shame on me, I will never learn... Imagine my disappointment and Embarrassment when my little g1 Completely covered the course with smoke. Stinky smoke on top of it. I have searched this site for idea's to fix it. so far I have come up with the famous BBQ, did that tonight, drain and change oil, will do that tomorrow night, thinking about yamalube 2S. any other suggestions? Cart sat for many years before I got it. not sure how many but had half tank of gas left so I just added some Seafoam and topped it off. could that be causing the smell, smoke? like I said it runs great. Only other problem with cart is that when going very slow, like when searching for my ball that is always in the woods: the cart is very jerky. Is that normal because of the clutch system used on these carts? Thank you very much for any help or ideas.

Probably this. Stale gas particularly when treated with stabilizers etc. will smoke like crazy. Drain it out, put some fresh gas in it and give it another go. I'm betting it'll be o.k. If it doesn't clean up at least you can rule it out and it's a cheap thing to try. |

Nice looking cart, love the paint job. You should look at the oil injection system if after changing the gas it still smokes a lot. Some guys do away with it and just premix the gas, mine works and i like it that way. Premium oil like the yamaha 2s you mentioned will reduce the amount of smoke as well.

like the other guy said,i bet its the gas with the treatment, that could cause the jerking at low rpm also.

Yep, start with the easy, fresh gas.
Nice looking cart. |

Re: 85 G1 smoking and stinking up the course.
Remove the oiling system and premix with Yamalube at 80:1.
If your just golfing, low speed driving, you can go 100:1. Mine runs great with just a hint of smoke trail. |
