What year is your buggy, and do you have the old style solenoids or the new ones?

Have you checked both fuses on the right rear fender? Make sure the fuses are good and the connections are clean and tight.

If I understand you correctly, the buggy will crank and start in reverse, but only clicks in forward, is that correct? If so, try swapping the solenoids and see what happens.

If the starter/generator spins the engine in either direction, it should be OK. If there was a problem with the s/g it wouldn't work at all.

Not so, the clicking may be micro switches or the solenoids moving but the
contacts not making continuity.
Test with a vom if they are passing 12 volts.

Are you sure the battery is fully charged and in good condition? A weak battery will make the solenoids click, but not have enough power to run the starter. A bad connection, like corroded or loose battery cables will cause the same thing. Have your battery tested at an autoparts store, clean the terminals shiny, and retest before spending money on unnecessary parts. Like Doomsman says, get a Volt Ohm Meter to properly diagnose your electrical problems. They are CHEAP at autoparts stores or Sears.
