Default five speed g2?

has anyone tried to remove the driven pulley and replace it with a gear in order to swap in a motorcycle engine with a 5 speed tranny?

Take a look at the "BigBlock" section , under "Bike engine section", you'll be amazed at some of the builds

They have done it, but if you drop the clutch it may toast the trans. Using a larger engine they can get around that, they have so much power they take off easy and then just gas it and it spins without clutching it. With the huge powerband they don't shift gears that much and are careful if they do.

well the engine is actually just a 200cc xr200 clone. so it a little smaller than the oem engine although it puts out just a little more. (13-16 hp). im not really looking for a tire burner here just something with a little more oomph and selectable gears. and thank you for those directions it was exactly what i was looking for. apparently i havent travelled as much of this site as i thought.

It will work, you could shift with that power no problem most put 600-1,000cc rice rocket engines in. Long as you didn't beat on it all the time, the CVT is very nice to gears and the gears are not small that is why stock they never go out unless they have no lube. Unless you had it I'd tell you to drop a $300 420cc clone in just because you only need a $50 adapter for the clutch and it will have around double the power (they have good torque) enough to spin tires and will operate just like stock so you avoid a lot of issues other than fabbing the mount/intake/exhaust/throttle like you would with anything. But up to you. I get in the woods where it would be difficult to shift and clutch in places also do yard work and tow, etc.
