Smoking Cart
I have a 2007 Yamaha Drive that started smoking recently. The smoke is white and a strong smell of oil. I checked the compression and it was a little over 150lbs. The plug is black.
Any suggestions |

Re: Smoking Cart
Check the oil level and for smell of gas in the oil. Is there oil in the airbox? Sounds like the carb float stuck and the gas went into the crank case. If so, remove and clean the carb, change the oil and run it, useually the oil/gas that got into the muffler will burn it self out after a short time. Hope that is what happened, good luck.

Re: Smoking Cart
Oil level is full, no smell of gas in the oil and just a tiny bit of oil in the air filter area.

Re: Smoking Cart
The low level oil light is on even when the key is off, but the oil level is full.

Re: Smoking Cart
After reviewing the wiring diagram, I see that the oil level switch is wired before the main switch (hot all the time), so it is possible for light to be illuminated even with the main switch off. I'm not sure how the switch is set up, but I would say that either (1) the switch is stuck closed or (2)whatever actuates the switch is hung up in the "switch closed" position. Good luck on your smoking problem - RAY

Re: Smoking Cart
Oil smoke is usually gas in the oil (makes the oil real thin and can trash the engine), oil overfill, or the oil ring let go. That cart is pretty new for a ring problem but not knowing hours on it. Some if the oil is overfilled it pumps it into the airbox. If it ran out of oil it may have trashed the engine.

Re: Smoking Cart
Given the modest cost of a quart of oil, I'd do an oil change and see if it helps. Hope it does!! . RAY
