On mine, I replaced the whole shock with the heavy duty shocks.

I bought the hd springs too. What a nightmare trying to get them compressed to replace them. My local motorcycle and atv shop had a really hard time. If I had to do it again...I wouldn't. I would buy the hd shock and spring already assembled. On a positive note- they do work great once you get them on. It made a huge difference.
