96 G16A starting problems
Just completely took apart the carb and cleaned every part. Put back together and still wont run. If you feather the gas about 1/4 position it will pick up a little bit. Airbox is all sealed and still will not run and not even with choke out. Take airbox of and cover the intake tube about 3/4 with my hand and it will run perfectly, but the moment you remove your hand it bogs down again. Any help is appreciated.

Re: 96 G16A starting problems
The most important part of carb. cleaning is to make sure all the "tiny" holes in the carb body are clear. If you look closely, there will be tiny holes in front of and in back of the throttle plate. The hole on the engine side of throttle plate will be the low speed orifice and can be traced into the area of the pilot screw adjustment. The hole closest to the carb. main air inlet will be the high speed orifice and can be traced into the area of the main jet. Locate these holes and shoot carb. cleaner (both ways)through these holes to make sure they are clear. Make sure you remove the main jet when blowing out these holes. I think problems lie in these tiny holes being plugged with varnish. Good luck - RAY
PS - Also make sure plastic carb. spacer and gaskets are not cracked. I have also seen instances here where the carb. mounting studs were stripped and make sure the fuel pump is ok. Last edited by bigstik40; 10-18-2011 at 09:59 PM.. Reason: add info. |

Re: 96 G16A starting problems
Sounds like a air/fuel ratio problem. Agree with bigstik on checking that spacer.
