Default Ideas on battery box repair, pics?

I have a G9 that I am in the process of fixing up this winter and have gotten alot fixed but have stumbled into a problem that I'm scratching my head trying to figure out. The battery box is severely rusted out and in need of repair, as you can see in the pic below. I plan on taking it down to bare metal and painting it with POR 15 to get rid of the rust for good. I also have a plastic battery box out of a boat I want to use, it covers the battery posts, the old battery fell against the metal and shorted, welding my F & R cables together so I don't want that ever happening again. Now the part I'm having trouble with, I do not own or have access to a welder to make any kind of brackets to hold the battery box. Taking it somewhere is pretty much out of the question, so I need some creative ideas. I have a feeling the rusted battery comp. is pretty common so I was hoping someone might have pics of what they did.

Looks pretty rusted, but you have the idea. If the metal is flimsy from rust then I would definitely reinforce with some Home Depot steel. You can just get some 2" stock and cut and bolt it to the existing metal that's there. From there, you can anchor the battery box to the new steel with some bolts as well. Tools needed: drill and bits, hacksaw, socket set. Should be ultra strong then. This isn't one of those projects that there is "one" good fix for because we all use different tools/supplies to repair things. Some of us use chicken wire and duct tape.... LOL ....not me?...

Check your local auto-parts store for a Battery-tray,maybe you can find one that will mount with basic stuff and no real fabrication work. They used to sell them for about $10-$20.Hope this helps.
