Starter belt problems
I have a 95 DS gas. The starter belt slips and squeals. I changed the belt and a bolt was missing on mounting bracket, I put a new one in and tightened the belt the best I could (the only thing to pry against is the muffler shroud ). Belt still squeals. I will try to tighten it once more.
Anyone have any advice???????? Thanks |

Re: Starter belt problems
I use a 24" crow bar type thing from the top of the starter to get the belt tight (still access through the service panel on top behind the seat). With the crow bar I have the working end comes out at more of a right angle (90 degrees) to the handle. I don't know if a "J" shape will work. I just happened to have this one and it works well. If you're interested I can look at the name on it later this evening.
The nice thing about this size is it gives good leverage and if you push up with your shoulder both hands will be free to work the wrenches to tighten the bolt. I do worry about over tightening and ruining the bearings on the starter shaft so I try not to over do it. |
