Run a name brand 30w (Valvoline Castrol etc ) for the first few oil changes to break in the rings, then go to a synthetic if you want to. I believe in a Castrol 10-30 non-synthetic and just make more frequent oil changes, Any 12v batt is fine for the start/ gen, my philosophy the bigger the better. lots of room for it on the G8.
