Default Need Advice VC 440

Hey guys I've got a Vegas Carts 440 motor from a ways back when they first started selling them. Unfortunately my motor spun the rod last weekend after years of fun.... Looks like the bolts on the connecting rod backed out. First thoughts was hey finally get to upgrade the motor. Talked to the guys at VC and since they no longer have the 440 they can't confirm that a new stroker crank (69mm) with the new rod/piston (4.51) combo will fit in my old 440 but they think it will....

They no longer make the old 68mm crank either, so I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either take a chance and spend $200 on parts for it to possibly work (can't return either) or possibly have to buy a new motor, still no 625 for individual sale yet.

My question is, has any of the guys with the old 440 motor upgraded their motor to the stroker crank and longer rod combo with success? If not, anyone have a 68mm crank sitting on their selves with my name on it?

An easy solution is to buy the 460 crank and rod. The only question left would be the piston related to the deck height. My GUESS is the late model VC produced billet rod along with the late model flat top piston would work. You might have to clearance the crankcase for the longer stroke. My very early 460 may of 2014 did have the crankcase milled out for the longer throw crank. P.S. It is only another $99 for a new block where you know the short block parts will all match up.

You hit the nail on the head, the deck height is the unknown. And I can't mock it up because it spun.... I don't see on VC site where they still just the block.

I just bought one even though they don't list it. Give them a call and I would guess they will come up with one. P.S. Bullfrog list the 66 mm crank for the 440 cc unit along with the 460 10 bolt bare block.

66mm is gx390 size, 68mm is for the 440 and 69mm is the stroker.

I reviewed bullfrogs info again. They list as follows: the 390 has a stroke 64 mm, 440- 66 mm, 460- 69 mm. Honda on their site lists the 390's stroke at 64 mm.

Looks like I may have been wrong.

This is why forums are the best. Lots of good input from everyone.

Good thing I got a second opinion... But thanks Ray I started browsing bullfrog website. Seems pretty legit and they have a ton of parts! So the 440 having a 66mm crank, I doubt there is 3mm of room for a 69mm crank. I could be wrong. I'll pop the head off this weekend and see if I can mock something up.

I have ordered several items from bullfrog and their service is A-1. We are lucky with the clones with ARC,VC,NR,and Bullfrog and I am sure their are others I haven't run across.
