Default brake failure?

I have a 2005 series TXT. I go up & down some very steep hills at times, and sometimes my two children are with me. If the brakes ever failed it would be a very bad situation. Is there a chance that the brake cable could break while going down a hill? Probably so, so if it did would I lose all braking or possibly just one wheel braking?
Any way to have an emergency brake?
Thanks

You bring up a very good point. I think you will have total failure if one cable breaks due to the mechanical equalizer. Your best bet is to replace both cables and 4 shoes now. Ezgo brakes are minimal at best ... be proactive on this

Would changing to disc brakes be safer? I have 20" tires now which give me plenty of ground clearance. Would I have to go with 22" or larger for the disc brake rotors?
Thanks

The main thing is you have to have at least 10" rims or bigger with most of the disk brake kits I've seen.

I have put on a few of the aussco kits that are out. They are a mechanical rear disc setup. When i put them on I also recommend replacing the brake cables. With this kit you will need a min 0f 10" wheels.

If you have the money I recommend this kit. It stops way better than the factory junk drum setup. You can do a search, they have been discussed alot on here.

Mule is right ... 10 inch or larger rims to clear the rotor and caliper set up...... I think good disc brakes are much safer than stock
