96 freedom cart needs torque
I have a 96 freedom series cart which is all stock. I use it for hunting and need additional torque for the hills. It has enough speed as is on flat ground and I did not want to upgrade to 48v. Our roads are in good shape so I do not need to lift it with larger tires. I would like to leave it as is but just gain the torque. I have changed all the wires to 4 guage so do I just need to upgrade the controller and solenoid next. Also, can you have the original motor upgraded for torque. Sorry but I am still learning about these carts. Any advice you guys can give is apperciated. I have done alot of reading so far and love this site.
Thanks |

Re: 96 freedom cart needs torque
Remove the environmental cover and see which chip you have in the controller. If it is the red one then that is why you have no torque. Try removing the chip and see how you like it....... always flip the run/tow switch to TOW before removing the cover.

Re: 96 freedom cart needs torque
I searched and my cart does not have the run/tow switch. Is this because it is a series cart?

Re: 96 freedom cart needs torque
Sorry to hear that ........ series carts are slow and steady. But great candidates for 48v upgrades

Keeter, a new 400 amp Alltrax controller will give you a torque bump. Try that first, and if you need more, then a motor rewind by Plum Quick would be next. |

Re: 96 freedom cart needs torque
You're welcome. If you decide on the Alltrax any of the board sponsors can take care of you and be here for your questions. It's an easy install on your cart.

Re: 96 freedom cart needs torque
Rabbitreborn,
If I go with the 500, is that all I will need to change for now if this gives me the torque I'm looking for. Can the stock motor and solonoid handle the bigger controller? |

Re: 96 freedom cart needs torque
You will want to upgrade solenoid and cables, too with the higher amp controller. A HD White Rogers 586 solenoid would work or go ahead and get you a MZJ 400 the price isn't much different. Upgrade your cables to 4ga. I would say 2ga if you were offroading or on lots of hills.
