Rear end making noise
I am trying to track down a noise. I took motor off and I thought there was a bearing right there but I dont see one lol. Is there any bearings in the top of the rear end that I can check? I am going to clean it also lol. What should I use to clean?
THanks |

Re: Rear end making noise
I determined that I am just going to have to take it apart and replace the 6 bearings. Not much sense in doing just one Guess I will do it in a couple weeks |

Re: Rear end making noise
Chevy, as crazy as this is going to sound.....
I just did a job recently where I had a similar noise coming from the rear. Sounded like an input shaft bearing gone bad. I changed input shafts, changed motors, changed every bearing in the differential..... the noise persisted. I finally checked the outter axle bearings and found the passenger side bearing to have a small hole in the seal. Bearing was good, spun out by hand with no noise whatsoever, but the small hole was causing what sounded like a bad bearing noise in the rear end. Changed it out and suddenly the "hum" went away. Just a thought, but you might want to check those axle bearings before you dismantle the pumpkin. |

Re: Rear end making noise
ok cool I will definatley do that. I will start with those and see what happens. This noise is driving me insane and with my full enclosure on it is really annoying and loud!
Thanks! |

Re: Rear end making noise
Change the seals along with the bearings When you order the differential bearings, order the 2 freeze plug style seals you will need to reassemble. Mark the main inner axle bearing caps prior to dis-assembly so you can get them back in the way they were.

Re: Rear end making noise
Brake Clean Everything That first bearing on the shaft is sealed = go for it.... clean it up, then lube shaft with anti-seize and re-install the motor or drop it off at 9am
