Default First Golf Cart Purchase

So I thought I got a great deal on a 1996 Club Car for $1200, only to find out it's a 1990. Had a 1996 sticker from golf course and the owner even said it was a 1996. My ignorance. It runs great, and is very clean. Only bummed about the FZ340 engine and limited mod's. I am not going to lift, will drive as is for golf. I suppose I could do the clutch mod and spring replacement. So, still a decent deal? Run the current engine till it craps out? Feel like taking it back but the guy just had a stroke and needs the money.

I'll dis-agree Most people do NOT know what year their cart is or the diffference between a 90 and a 96.....Personally I would rather a 90 than a 96 CC If it runhs good and you are happy with it why get upset about it?
P.S. Is it his fault you can't tell the difference either? I don't think so ....

Sorry...

But, IMO... a 90 "Flathead" is not worth $1200.00, no matter how clean it is!

Ianham... welcome to BGW!

Do whatever YOU feel is right!

all the best!

I definately do not blame him, like I said it's my first purchase and if I would have found this forum first then I would have known what to look for. Drove great from his house to mine, about a half mile on old gas. I'll check for any leaks on the garage floor in the morning but other than that it's super clean. I am sure I will be more frustrated with my golf game than the cart!

So, from what I have read the clutch mod is recommended?

If both your clutches are in halfway decent shape, you should be O.K....
You may see some difference in before, and after...
But, it may not be what you expected!

From what I understand... the FZ340 is not much for torque, OR speed...
and the clutches can only do so much!

If your body and chassis is in good shape and don't like the flat head, upgrade with a big block from CPP. I think that engine you have is counterclock wise rotation and you would have no problems. I have a 2004 which is clockwise rotation and I uprgraded to the 24hp Briggs Vanguard. Love it, only had to drill 4 holes, buy 4 longer bolts for mounting, buy oil and ready to run. It comes complete with new clutches, wiring, belts and exhaust. Idles in neutral. My only problem, since mine was clockwise rotation my shift is backwards, but I don't mind that. Running high gears and 22x1100x10 tires it will GPS more than 60mph. It runs the best at 23-25mph.
