Default 84 ezgo starting and stopping

picked up and 84 ezgo. rebuilding the engine. before pulling the motor i noticed that with the key on if put into forward or reverse it would try starting and had spark at the plug even though i wasnt pushing on the gas pedal. Is this correct? or should it be like every other golf cart i have driven and not start until the pedal is pushed and shuts of when you let off the gas? Is there any issue with leaving it the way it is? or do i need to fix something?

At the end of the throttle rod you will find the microswitch that fires the solenoid. I bet that this is either welded shut or badly adjusted. You should fix this just for safety.

Bad microswitch most likely. I would either fix it or do the modifications for a constant run setup. There has been some conversation in this forum recently about constant run mods.

Or it could be that somebody has bypassed the micro switch. If you are going to go with a constant run setup... be careful that you shut the engine down before changing directions with the F-R switch. These old carts run in reverse by turnig the engine and starter/gen. backwards.

took a quick look this morning. microswich is still in the cart. it looks like it might just be adjusted to tight and has constant pressure on the switch. I am going to look at it a little closer tonight.
