Loping engine

My 1996 Club Car XRT 1200 has a Kawasaki 400 engine and has always run like a champ. It is a two seater with a loading bed and long roof and looks sharp too. But during the last parade, it acted like it was running out of gas. I could get the engine to lope along by pulling the choke as it started to die and it would catch and run for 50 yards and then do it again. I checked all the hoses and valves, pick-up tube, replaced filters, cleaned carb ab everything else and it still does it. I was told by a mechanic that it was more than likely the fuel pump. Do you guys agree? If it is the fuel pump, I would like to replace it with a low pressure fuel pump. Can this be done and if it can what do I do with the place where the impluse or pulse hose connected to the block? A supervisor at the Club Car dealership said that they replace the fuel pumps with electric ones all the time and just plud the pulse hose connection on the block? Does this sound right and do you think it will solve my problem? Thanks guys I'll have to post some pictures. I got the rear dual wheels and chrome stacks on my wife's Mule 550 and it looks, well cute as hell. thanks again,

if it has vaccume fuel pump stick with that......sounds like its starving for fuel......a good tune up might just cure it................................

I agree with Shadowman, but to answer your question, yes, the Mr Gasket cheap fuel pumps at O'Reilly auto parts work great.

Thanks guys....I have already tuned the engine and totally cleaned the tank, filters and lines, so about all I am left with is the fuel pump and both of you seemed to veto the electric pump right?

I don't necessarily veto it but I dont think it's necessary.

Do me a favor and check something...
There's a little "circle" on the face of the fuel pump, check it for debris, (gravel dust etc.)
IF there is debris... take an old toothbrush and brush away the debris on the screen,
and lightly shoot it with just a little carb cleaner, (DO NOT use compressed air!)
and take it for a test run, If it still acts up... THEN replace your fuel pump!

And for fuel pumps... I prefer the stock pulse pumps for stock engines! (but that's just my opinion!)

Thanks again guys. I will clean that "spot" on the pump and spray it with carb cleaner and give it a try then. I will check out the Mr. Gasket pumps at O'Reilly's but will stick with the vacum pump you have convinced me. This firum is the best tool in my cabinet.

Thanks Shadowman..............I just found the **** thing. My wife used to Manage the Club Car distributer here in Albuquerque so we have all the books. She is the one that gave me the idea for the electric fuel pump because they did that all the time on the modified carts. Thanks again
