look at the advertised rating. It might be 3.9HP @48 volts.

behind the batteries is a metal plate with 6 cables, coming from the v glide, bolted on and are attached to heavy solid looking wires.

i see on the new motor that it is 48v so the 3.9 hp means nothing for my 36v cart, is that correct? does this mean I need a motor made for a 36v and rated for more than the 2.5 hp my old motor was before I realize any speed increase?

If you want more speed then convert it over to a controler cart and 48V's and put your old 36V series motor in! Resistors are made to be slow.

Theres not a whole lot you can do "simply" to gain more speed from the club car resistor cart. If you bump the voltage up you can burn the coils. If you put to hot a motor in there you can burn things up. The system just can't handle much more in stock form. All that said the people who sold you the motor should have known this. (if they are competent) Heres the real kick in the groin, if you would have upgraded to 48 volts and kept the stock 36 volt motor you would have seen a 20-25% increase in power across the board.....about the same increase as the new motors 3.9 hp. In all reality you gained nothing by buying the new motor. You can sell that stock 36 volt motor easily, those usually bring good money because people want the 36 volt motor in there 48 volt carts.

Yes, if you want to keep it 36 volts you need to base your numbers on 36 volts. Again, problem with doing that is the system will only handle so much. I think PQ make a motor specifically for those that pushes it to the limit of what it can handle, might call and ask them.
