Yes you can install your own. The car just has to have head and tail lights to order the PTV code.

So if I decide to add the Alltrax XCT 300 or 400 amp, that I will need to change out my brushes? Haven't heard that one.

Not alway's. Just found when I installed the last controller it wasn't reaching 22 mph. Through the lap top and help from tech support, the motor was drawing way to many amps. Changed out the update brush rig/brush kit and instantly cured the problem.

Bad brushes can really overheat your motor and it's much worse with more amps from the controller.

they are among the easiest. no press needed, no snap ring pliers. only "special tool" is a long screw to grab & lift the bearing retainer ring to put the original screws back in.

How many sets of brushes would I need to order if I'd like to change them? My YDRE 2012 is only getting 15mph after the fastest setting was uploaded to my controller. Was hoping for the 19.

Actually, your car is right in the serial number/ date for this brush rig update. It is a new style brush rig/springs/brushes/ and all the screws/insulators....everything. Part # JC1-H7104-09-00 Suggested retail $ 94.15 Good luck
