Yamaha g1 no spark
Hey everyone,
Thanks in advance for the help, I'm 16 and so are the rest of my buddy's, our neighbor gave us a g1 cart for free that ran but after riding it all summer long last year it started acting up, and than one day we were out in the poring rain and it just quit. Never started again after that. We thought it might be the coil so we replaced it! but after investigating more there is absolutely current running through the brown wire at the motor! So for being wordy just really wanna get this bad boy running again. Thanks |

Re: Yamaha g1 no spark
Are you getting power to the coil? Check that. Also, check your connections at the cdi unit on the passenger side fenderwell, behind the starter solenoids. Check for loose or corroded connections.
Did you check spark at the plug or the coil wire? I use a "spark tester" at the plug wire, you can get one at any parts store. It's better and safer than the screwdriver trick. |

Thanks for you're reply! yes we have wen't over everything all the grounds are grounded and all the connections are fine! but when we took a multimeter and red the wires out of the motor, the brown wire which should have (350 ohms) reads nothing

Re: Yamaha g1 no spark
I'm thinking you either have a problem with the magneto or the cdi.

Re: Yamaha g1 no spark
First, did you check the ohms reading at the wire harness connections at the CDI or off the back of the engine? Could be the "bullit" connectors coming out of the engine that plug into the wire harness are bad. Yes the charge coil ohm reading (brown and black wires) should be 350 ohms and the pulsar coil reading (white/red and white/green wires) should be 14 ohms. If you take readings off the engine harness side it will tell you if it's internall or a wire harness problem. Sorry for the long post, just love to see younger members "logically" try to fix there problem. Good luck
