Default Vanguard Throttle hookup question

I have a 16hp Vanguard in my EZGO Marathon. I currently have the throttle cable hooked directly to the carb butterfly shaft tab. I had to drill a hole in the top so it would be a pull to open. The other end of the cable is connected to the stock throttle setup. I moved the pin out for more travel but now i have too much & the carb is full open at half pedal.

I am thinking about going back to the stock governor bracket & modifying it. I removed the gov shaft from the engine so I don't have that pivot point.

Any ideas on the best way to connect the throttle cable so full accelerator pedal equals full butterfly opening

This is how CPP's BB kits are set up (using the factory cart govenor) and they work great

I made one using the stock arm, just made an angle and bolted an arm to it, hooked the lever and rod and cable to it. Put a return spring on it, works great. Drill extra holes in it after you mock it up for the right travel. If you use the little rod you can drill a hole every 1/8" or less and get the adjustment very close. On my clone its bolted over the fan shroud, you will have to put it so it pulls the carb the right way. I cut the arm up BTW only used part of it. The one on the right is for the choke. The throttle arm is actually mounted behind the plate to get the pivot over enough, welded a little tab on the back side of it.

I made up a throttle rod out of coat hanger & connected it to the stock bell crank. I had to cut the 2 bottom tabs off the bell crank & some of the metal from the mounting bracket. I then used a swivel I made up to connect the throttle rod to the bell crank.

I used a spare block & heads for the test setup. Will have to try it on the cart to see about pedal travel vs butterfly opening

Not a sponsor, but Frank at Alpha Carts has those bell cranks. If a sponsor carries those I apologize in advance.....
