Default Wiring question on my 89 ezgo/cushman xi 500

Hello all I am now the proud owner of an 89 ezgo xi 500 the same year I graduated from high school. I have started going through her and attached to the toggle switch which I'm reconnecting to the 2 way key I noticed an additional set of wires connected to a like a house breaker. I know that isn't right. Why would someone do this? The house fuse was corroded to death so whatever it did it no longer does. Why would someone attach this? Is this some ghetto workaround. I want her to be right and safe. Take a look

your guess is as good as ours, especially since its only wired to both sides of the switch.....only the OP knows or what he was thinking.

Looks like the former owner cheaped out on repairs and had just enough knowledge to be dangerous. I would get a manual and go about fixing it with correct replacement components.

I believe that breaker was being used as an on/off switch. to bypass the key switch.
I know the batteries are toast so I'm waiting on a new set then I will go through testing the solenoid and upgrading the cables etc. where is the best place to get a new cable set and what gauge should I be looking for?

I'd use 4Ga for all the high current cables.

What JohnnieB said and I was looking up the same sponsor for your cables.
