Default 1988 EZGO marathon

Just bought a 1988 EZGO marathon. Looked under the seat and it looks like nothing I've seen. Gonna show my ignorance now. Is there anything I can do to get more speed and torque out of this thing. I hit the pedal and it blasts off but never gets real fast. Horrible climbing a hill too. I've started replacing all cables with 4 ga. Also have cables going to a coil. Do I need to replace them too? Starting to wish I'd have passed on this one.

It sounds like you have a resistor cart. I have one and you can get some more torque. You are limited because the resistors do just that, resist the flow of electricity. Your cart is only as efficient as the weakest link. The red wire on the wiper is it. You can't get a bigger one. The wiper studs also limit flow because they don't always make a positive contact. I'd go at least 2 AWG on the wires, everywhere. All the wires on this cart are high current. You can get a heavy or super duty solenoid. I bypassed the resistors completely on my last stud on the wiper board. You can keep tires stock and it will not limit torque like bigger ones. Good batteries properly charged and maintain are key too.

My eventual plan is to swap out the resistors and go to a solid state system. Upgrading to 48 volts is also an option.
