Default 80 something 2 stroke rearend

A buddy calls me wanting to know what might be wrong with his cart, a mid-80's EZGO 2stroke. The motor runs and both clutches turn but the cart goes nowhere. He says it will roll, so the rear end is not locked up. The cart is about an hour away, is it worth the effort to go and get it and see what I can find, or just say sell as is. I've never had a rear end apart, so I'm not sure what I might get myself into. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Have him look and see if the axle is turning without the wheel

I'll have him look. The stripped hub doesn't sound too bad to fix. I will probably make a trip sometime and either try and fix it there or bring it back to work on later. Thanks for all the replies.
