You keep saying a vanguard lawnmower engine. If I believe, this won't work unless it has a horizontal output shaft. most lawn mower engines are vertical shafts.

you are correct, lots of lawn mowers do have vertical shafts, all the way from cheap residential tractors to commercial mowers, but the truly heavy duty commercial mowers have horizontal shafts because this allows for the deck to be shaft driven with gear box, good point for those that are thinking of doing a big block swap, wherever your motor comes from, it does need to be a horizontal shaft engine, in my case, it is horizontal, engine is out of a walker model B lawn mower

You know, I didn't give the shaft drive tractors a thought.

Oh crap!! Now you got me thinking......I may end up with a junk workhorse that the motor is locked up. Pickup a used mower for a couple of hundred and there is my motor. Then just have to find the clutch and all.

Somebody stop me!!!!!!!!!!

Most all zero turn mowers have a horizontal shaft. My Scag has a 25 hp Kohler Vtwin
