EZGo Gas Capabilities - What can a cart do?
I am considering purchasing an EZGo ST Sport 2+2 GAS cart to drive around on desert and forest dirt roads. These roads will be passable by passenger car so nothing crazy, just exploring. In Cali most of the dirt roads still require a street legal vehicle and I am looking at a 2007 EZGO gas that has a California Plate.
What can I expect out of this cart? Can it run all day at top speed? Do they overheat easily? Are they really for putting around golf courses with a lot of breaks or can they be driven for a couple of hours straight? Also what top speed can one expect from a 2007 EZgo sport 2+2 with the gov. removed? Thanks so much for your help. Jill |

If you take the governor off. dont go top speed for more than 15 min.
I work at the local course in the cart barn so i know how to have fun with the carts. We messed up our Workhorse,(pretty much a st sport but not lifted or anything), by running it full speed through the course. governed, you can run top speed for a long time. they are pretty good at taking a beating. |

They are air cooled, so if you keep the fins on the head cleaned and the fan free from debris. You should have no trouble from it. They are basically setup like a lawn mower.
removing the governor you run the risk of over reving the eng which will cause internal rod damage. |

Re: EZGo Gas Capabilities - What can a cart do?
Understood. I read someplace that the governor was to restrict the cart to a "legal" 15 mph for golf courses. I assume there is some room between 15 mph & redline on these engines, which I guess is like 4000 rpms? So maybe an inexpensive tach is in order to keep from over reving it.

Re: EZGo Gas Capabilities - What can a cart do?
that is right, but tightening the governor will only get you about 3-4mph more. If you go all the way you might readch 20, but you can over rev the eng.
A cheap tach is the way to go. |

Your cart has a bilt in REV LIMITER!!! Crank the gov. as tight as you want!!!! when you hit the REV LIMITER the cart will run like S--T !!!!! Back the Gov. off and try it again till it runs smoth. With your foot flat on the floor!!!

Man, I went from 15 mph to 23 by tweekin the governor. Then to over 25 mph by going with larger tires. And the governor still has more to go!

Re: EZGo Gas Capabilities - What can a cart do?
speed will depend on tire size but you should be able to get close to 25mph, use a good synthetic oil like mobil 1 and you should be in for years of happy running like that. I try and stay out of the rev limiter but my teenage sons don't (go figure ). they have never blown an engine in one of the carts and they'll dog'em like that all day long. I might lose one tomorrow but for the last 4 or 5 years nothing bad has happend. I already knew the engines would be like that, I mean they have a rev limiter the cuts the ignition off around4600 rpm. If you keep up with it (oil changed, ect) and use synthetics i'll last for a long time if it isn't already damaged.
