Problem starting my Marathon when cold
I started having problems with my Marathon. I need to press the gas peddle for around 5 minutes before it finally starts. I have been reading and realized the problem could be I need an adjustment on my valves. can someone tell me how to do this. is it a difficult thing to do or do i just need to purchase the tool to measure how tight the valves are after I remove the black cover. can someone tell me how to do this?

Re: Problem starting my Marathon when cold
They should be at .004 about the thickness of two sheets of paper
when completely off lobe. Most people use a feeler guage, blade variety. If it's just when it's cold, it wouldn't seem to be the valve adjustment..but I could be wrong. I'd say it's in the carb..but I am researching that myself now, trying to find out about adjustment. |

Does the choke work? Check the basics first and maybe save a lot of time...

Re: Problem starting my Marathon when cold
The choke doesnt seem to do anything to help. I found the thread with the instructions on how to adjust the valves. I will try that soon.

Re: Problem starting my Marathon when cold
I would look in the end of the carb and make sure when the knob is pulled the choke plate closes. If it runs fine warm it's not the valves.
