Rebuilding my 350
Ok, so I'm all in. I have it tore completly down, pistons out, all cleaned up, and you know what? It wasn't that bad at all.So tomorrow I'm going to the local shop to pick up my gaskets and new rings. Then, I'm locking myself in my shop and putting it all back.I hope. The links to the repair manuals have been great.I hope to get it back together completly, and maybe try it.If you see on the news a man in the street slamming a engine and acting all wild, you know what happened!Wish me luck!

Re: Rebuilding my 350
(I'm Not saying any bad about you or your skills Waterbug.....) sometimes it's better to pay the experts to do it. This forum is full of pages from people who didn't give up when they should have. Just the price of the gaskets for this engine is enough to put a lump in my throat, do that twice and you could have almost paid for a rebuilt engine from the engine shop with a warranty |

If you are doing yourself, and I think that's fine.. it is quite imperative
that you follow the book exactly..I'd say it's probably ok to get away with one or two little tiny things, but after about two.. you're treading on expensive ground. Of great importance is the cylinder condition, the crank condition, and the measurements.. I hope it works out..! |

Re: Rebuilding my 350
I have it all back together, new rings, all new seals and gaskets and everything looks great. The engine was really clean, not a single mark on the pistons, crank journals or rods. It really wasn't that bad.I still have to clean the carb.,set the valves, and put the clutch back together then it's the moment of truth.I feel great about it.I either saved a lot of money, or wasted $180.

Got it back in, everything hooked up, and rode it around the block. It runs like a new one!It sure better as hard as I worked on it.Maybe in a couple months I'll be ready for the next one.
