Default I need some advice on a clutch spring

As some of you know I have a g16 that I'm going to rebuild as transportation to work and playing on the course. I'm going to get the engine redone and either get it .50mm over or see if a g22 piston will fit. Since I'm rebuilding it I want to replace the clutches and ran into a stumbling block with clutch spring selection. After reading some posts I found that some are using a umax and it seems to be a good choice but they are looking for more torque with lifted carts. My cart will not be lifted but I want a little more torque to tackle a steep hill on my course but I don't want to lose any top speed, if any thing I want the cart to go around 25 mph. My question is am I good to go with a umax spring or do I stay with a stock spring?

Call don plowman at plowmans carts. Tell him what you are doing and what you want it to do. He will get you exactly what you need.

The Umaxx spring is fairly cheap and works well. It does not alter top speed just at what rpm the secondary shifts over.

The umax sounds like a good bet then. I found it for about $30 or so, then apparently I need a spacer/bushing. I read it's a preloaded type of spring, so how do you set it?

A guess would be B-3 and see how you like it. The spacer is good insurance against doing damage.

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. Do you by chance have a link to instructions on how to install it?

There are several on youtube under yamaha secondary clutch spring. I used the one by Jake's. I do recommend getting the secondary clutch puller. Makes the job fairly easy.

The umax spring works well--it used to be $13, then jumped to over $50. If your belt and sheaves are worn, it would be best to replace the entire secondary. Torque kits with a generic, way too stiff spring, will rob you of top end. Plowmans has several different springs for different setups, not a one size fits all. Worn ramps in the helix should be replaced, too.

That's the funny thing, the threads I read on the umax spring were a little dated and the prices they were saying was cheap. I go to look it up and went "holy crap", why did it jump so high up. I did order that spring and spacer, and I'm looking at replacement secondary's now, they are averaging about $100 or so. I'm torn if I should get a new primary or just rebuild it.
