Intermittent fuel issue. 08 CC FE350
Finally got my cart pretty much where I want it, but I have a small issue that i thought was fixed. I don't know the history of the cart, only what I've done. Plug, oil change, K&N air filter, 4" lift, 22" tires and rims, rear disk brakes & rear springs and LED's
Occasionally, if I'm just puttering around after a few minutes, I small raw fuel and the motor wants to die, only way i can keep it running is choking the motor with my foot about 1/2 way on the throttle. About 30 seconds of that, and it clears up and starts running fine again. It did it twice in the last 5 days while at Cedar Key. Side note and possibly related, I used to never have to hit the choke button to start it cold. Now I have to hold the choke for the initial crank and it runs fine. I'm wondering if the float is not hanging up. You can actually smell when its about to happen about 30 seconds prior. Last edited by Pitsch1; 05-24-2021 at 07:46 AM.. Reason: added photo |

If you’re smelling raw fuel then it could be the carb hanging up and flooding. I’d take it apart and clean it out really well and see if that helps. Wouldn’t hurt to change the fuel lines and filters also.
If that doesn’t make a difference I’d suspect that possibly the coil is beginning to fail and weaken the spark. Which is not a fun repair. But I’d start with thr simple stuff first |

If you can smell raw gas stop the cart and look around the carb and fuel lines for where its leaking.
It may be running out of the bowl vent hose which comes off the top of the carb, and runs down the front, and hangs out down by the engine cradle. If fuel is coming out of there, then its almost definitely because the float is stuck. Anytime you smell raw fuel you need to stop and find out where its coming from. If you can smell it there is already more than enough vapor to combust and leave you watching a cart burn to the ground, and possibly taking you and any of your passengers up with it. |
