Default high speed gear question

A guy on Craigslist local to me has a set of brand new high speed gears, 8:1, for $175. I emailed him asking what year, brand of cart and if gas or electric that these gears fit. He emailed back sayin any cart between a 95 and 2012. Surely this isn't true. It would be a good deal if they would fit my next project, a 98 TXT.

Question Re: high speed gear question

Here is one I found by google.
High Speed gear set for GAS E-Z-GO. Two models and two ratios to choose from. 1991-1997 4 CYCLE CARTS. And 1998-2007 CARTS. DO YOU HAVE THE NEED FOR SPEED? Here's the cure. These gears in 8:1 ratio will get you approximatly 26 MPH from a stock cart with standard size tires. 6:1 ratio approximatly 32 MPH. Can also be used on lifted carts with oversize tires *NOTE* These gear kits DO NOT come with instructions however installation is pretty straight forward. NOTE 1997 AND 1998 WERE CHANGE OVER YEARS. E-Z-GO USED TWO DIFFERENT BEARING DIAMETERS 1.575 AND 1.378 noted by arrow on picture. WE HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING WHICH BEARING YOUR CART HAS. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO 97 and 98 CARTS

If you have question give our tech line a call at (229) 861-2026

Wink Re: high speed gear question

The rear ends are all pretty much the same on E-Z-GO's if you look at them. I would think it would be OK but not +.

Talked with the guy and he agreed to hold on to the gears for me and not sell them to anyone else. I told him I'd pay him $200 for em and he said that would be fine. These will make a nice addition to my lowered TXT.

I'd be careful, a 6:1 gear is double the stock 12.44:1.
Theoretically if your motor, controller etc. could handle it your speed could double and your torque will be 1/2.
Not saying don't do it just know what you're getting into.

Hell ya...lo WITH go. and this will be on 72v. I'm taking notes and trying to save pennies for a 50 mph + street screamer. Hoping to be cranking by the end of next summer
