Probably be best. It's aggrevating and I've never messed with one that I didn't stick a cable strand in my finger (gloves or not).

Yes, just take it off the shaft. You'll have to leave the shaft itself.

No problem. Keep that oil changed! And only one quart. More than likely the dip stick will misread. 10w30 and I'd go with a good synthetic (Mobil 1) if you'll be running it hard in the heat.
