Default Re: Low Torque 1996 Club Car FE 290

For $40, id replace the spring first with the power spring as thats the only item that seems to wear out to me. I had a problem with the clutch on my 90 but what happened it got stuck open so I had no low end torque, just top end performance. I took it apart and cleaned the shaft up as it was pitted and corroded and it was only my time I spent repairing it as I had some sand paper plus other tools to fix it. It works good, so for now im gonna leave it alone as it is working and the cart is stock. But either way, if you put larger tires I would spend the money on the spring as everyone says it helps out to get that low end torque back.

Thanks, BD. I think I'll try replacing the driven spring first and see what happens. The clutch puller is only needed for the drive clutch, correct?

Yeah, on the rear clutch you only need a socket to remove it and also remove your inner fender to get access to it. You will also need the tool to remove the clip, I forgot the name of it, C clip???? Its simpler than I thought. Also when I fixed my my rear driven clutch I dont think it was that easy to compress and mine looked to be original as it was all rusty looking. I should have the stock one in mine. Maybe your spring is worn out
