84 club car electrical problem
I have an annoying problem on my 84 gas club car. Starts fine, runs good when running. I can turn the key switch to on and it will start/run for a bit. Going down the road it will die and if I move the switch to OFF it will pickup back up and run a for bit...then die...then back to ON and run /die. I am assuming that there may be a short somewhere. Where to look first? Any suggestions? I have already replaced the ignition switch BTW.

Re: 84 club car electrical problem
Check or replace the two limit switches in the black elecrtical box under your seat. The upper switch is the start switch, the lower is the kill switch. At least that is the way it is on my 2001. They are only about 2 or 3 $ each.

Re: 84 club car electrical problem
also, your key switch may be going bad. Is it really loose? On a 84 if it is still the original, it may be getting old enough that between the vibrations and the thousands of off/on cycles, it is just getting worn out.

Re: 84 club car electrical problem
Main or master solenoid may be going bad or there are 5 micro switches in the silver box at the end of the gas peddle linkage, the 1 that activates first might be be weakened & dropping out.

Re: 84 club car electrical problem
Five micro switches? I only see two next to the throttle end. An upper and a lower. Will replace those. The only silver box I see is the voltage regulator. Will also replace the main solenoid as it is fairly inexpensive.
