gas club car not charging

this is on a 900 series gas club car. starter/generator checked ok. i replaced the voltage regulator. i have replaced the solenoid. i have only 2 volts coming out of the solenoid to the battery when the red wire from volt reg is attached to the battery side terminal of solenoid. this is the wrong terminal-i know it should be on the other terminal that the f2 lead from the generator is on, but when attached like that-no voltage going to battery. i crank the cart, unhook positive lead from battery and measure voltage.
