Question Re: 2001 EZGO 36 Volt TXT PDS Controller Smoked!!

If it's a stock cart that white charger wire shouldn't have reached the - terminal.
If he did in deed tape the correct wires when removing them how did they swap out.

What polarity is the voltage on the black wire connected to Pin-2 (ITS) on Curtis 1206 and 1206SX controllers?

I don't trust any wire color to mean anything in DC circuits, but I usually do plug the black test lead into the negative jack on voltmeters.

When swapping batteries it's a good idea to take a few pix with your cell phone before you disconnect things. If you don't have a wiring diagram make one! Mistakes are expensive!

2. The controller smoked because B- and B+ cables were reversed. The only role the Black and White wires from the charge receptacle played in the incident was causing the main B- and B+ cables to be reconnected in the wrong places on the new battery pack.
Exactly JohnnieB, I got complacent due to working with DC voltages almost daily. I removed batteries a week prior and did not even bother looking to see polarity of black and white wires off charging receptacle. See pics, typically substation battery banks are 24V, 48V, or 130V systems. As you can see from pics the Black is the positive and white is negative. I made a mistake period.

Black = Positive / White = Negative, must be either a corporate or an electric utility industry standard.

Is that a thermometer I see sticking out of cell #9 in the first picture?

I took a quick look on-line at Fiamm SD-11 batteries shown in the second picture and noticed the AH rating is at the 8 hour rate and golf cart batteries are rate at the 20 hour rate, so that is something else to keep in mind.
