A code from scanner would help.
1) gauge helps find batt problems. PLZ think about a FACTORY (Stock) gauge
2) no smell - probably not brake.
3)Trojans--- google EZ-GO vs Trojan -- batt issues
4) codes good...

Still suspect batts.

Speed sensor is on motor.
Either in bearing (bad news) or at front (tone wheel type- good news)

"Tone wheel" sensor is 3 wire plug to black "Boot" near transaxle .
held in by 1 torex screw.

Please check codes before throwing money at problem.

Thanks guys for all the advice and input. It's most likely going to a shop. I'll be sure to take a jar of Vaseline with me. I'm pretty confident I'll be paying for the repair of the actual problem plus some extras.

Shop reported bad speed encoder. Is this the same things as speed sensor. They also tried to tell me it had a bad motor brake but I informed them that was a brand new OE motor brake on it.

Encoder = Speed sensor = Tach sensor. I think the only difference is that the encoder can tell "which direction the motor is spinning & how fast", not just "is it spinning & how fast".

Replace the encoder bearing in the motor. The speed sensor is built into the bearing.

Cart is fixed at $537 later. I had them do some other minor repairs and replace rear shocks along with the bearing encoder. Bad thing is my buddy had narrowed the problem down to the bearing encoder. However he wasn't positive that was the issue. I should have bought the part and tried it. Looking at the diagram the encoder doesn't look to be a hard repair. The bright side of this is I have a buddy that is pretty capable of trouble shooting future issues.

For that kind of bank, if you are planning to keep the cart, it may be prudent to invest in the curtis 1313 handheld programmer that will assist with diagnosing problems.
