Default New to RXV - Any Good Info Out There?

Purchased a 2012 RXV back last summer - finally had some time to find a good forum and join. Although I am an auto and SxS enthusiast, I am very new to the golf cart world. I mainly purchased the RXV for the braking system on it, having personally witnessed one my nephews almost killed after disengaging a mechanical brake and rolling down a hill into a moving truck.

Are there any good online resources for the RXV so I can learn more about my cart?

You are at the right place for Rxv info. What do you wish to know, you were kinda vague. The Rxv defaults to a "locked" status, kinda like semi truck air brakes (unless you "defeat that" by removing the brake).

More information regarding this brake situation would be great.

My understanding is that the brake defaults to being on.

RXV brake 101

There is no conventional brake system on RXV's.

Normal braking (while driving) is done by regenerative braking using the carts A.C. motor.

The physical brake assy. on the rear of the motor is a
"Parking/Emergency" brake only.

This brake is checked by the cart at "Key on" or on restart after "time out"
Cart attempts to twist motor forward and reverse with brake applied.
if motor turns , brake fails test and cart will not run.

The brake is "All or Nothing" -- fully released or locked.

Parking brake is a "dead mans brake" power must be applied to release the brake.

If controller fails or batts fail--- brake locks.

The "parking/emergency" brake will also engage if brake pedal is pressed close to the floor. This results in rear tires locking up and often damage to parking brake.

"Locking up" brakes on RXV's leads to brake failure-- with cart unable to move and a $300.00 +/- brake purchase.

Not to hijack this thread but can anyone give more details on this break lock?

Is there a way to disengage the break to be able to "tow" an RXV?

I ask this because I friend of mine ran into this issue last week, luckily for us, it was a loose terminal nut on a battery ad we were able to get it back working and didn't have to leave it sitting out in the field.

(I am not a fan of the RXV for now.)

Yes, there is a tow switch under the seat.

I was mainly looking for general info regarding the RXV (not just the brake - I only mentioned that to indicate why I went with the RXV without knowing much about the cart). For instance, I just found out on here the other day what "Freedom" indicates for the RXV - think that is what I have since I have clocked 21mph using GPS.

I have been a member of many automotive forums and they typically will have an information site regarding your type of vehicle - was just curious if there was such a thing for the RXV. If not, I guess I will have to search on this site or ask the questions.

To answer the brake lock question.

Try placing cart in "TOW" with key in neutral.

If that fails try "connecter Shuffle" -- instructions near/under cover at run tow switch.

Without a functioning controller, brake will not release unless the cart has the
"connecter shuffle" instructions near run tow switch. (2009 and up?).

To move stuck RXV, remove brake from rear of motor (3x10mm bolts - 1 electrical connecter)

cart wil have NO BRAKES !!!!!

CART WILL HAVE NOOOO BRAAAAAKES !!!!!!!!!

Ha, we got a bit lucky and found a loose battery cable, but with no power I was unsure if there was a manual way besides removing the brake.

Thank You.

Actually on my 2008 rxv, the brake is totally removed and my cart works fine. I have a key issue but its unrelated. Been tryin to sort that out for years. I learned to just live with it.
