2006 EZ GO PDS - Reverse not working

I have a 2006 EZGO PDS that is no longer working in reverse. The beeper comes on and when you push the peddle I get nothing other than a click of the solenoid.

The symptoms you've listed indicate a bad controller.

Two things are supposed to happen when a voltage sent from F/R rocker switch on the dash to the controller tells it to go into reverse.
1. Sound the beeper.
2. Send the field current is a direction that makes the cart go backwards.

The beeper is sounding, so the voltage from the F/R switch is getting to the controller, but the controller isn't doing everything it is being told to do, so the controller is bad.

This would be a good time to upgrade to an Alltrax XCT controller.

99% of the time this does indicate a controller failure. To be sure check the F&R rocker switch, it should send power to pin #2 of plug J1 below when reverse is selected.

The solenoid does not click in reverse when I hit the pedal but does in forward. Could the solenoid be bad and not the controller? I don't have circuit tester to test the #2 pin. Any other troubleshooting tips your can offer?

Solenoid is fine if it clicks in forward. Something else has to be the reverse problem.

which Alltrax XCT controller do you recommend to replace the EZGO stock unit currently in the cart? I would like to get a little more speed and torque if possible.

Use the XCT400 control for more torque and speed... but - you will have to fix the reverse problem first. The solenoid not clicking in reverse was a critical piece of information.

Right now it seems your F&R switch is bad or terminals corroded.

PDS circuit has ins 1,2 and 3 for the FNR circuit. 1 is the common and 2 is reverse with 3 as forward. If the FNR is in R and the buzzer sounds then the controller knows it is supposed to be in Reverse. Buzzer sounds because controller tells pin 10 to go to ground and activate the buzzer. If you have it in R, buzzer is sounding and when you press the go pedal nothing happens, I say bad controller.. XCT400 would be a good replacement but make sure to check the condition of cables and make sure your solenoid is up to par.

You need to get a DMM (Digital Multi-Meter) to work on a cart. An inexpensive one from an auto parts store or discount store will suffice.

A PDS controller does everything, so it sounding the beeper when reverse is selected seems to indicate it is being told to go into reverse mode, but you'll need to measure the voltage on J1 Pin-2 to be sure.

The solenoid clicking when pedal is pushed in forward, but not when in reverse, is a hew one on me, however as previously mentioned a PDS controller does everything.

Right - and the control triggers the solenoid by providing 1/2 of the activation circuit.
