Thats what I was reading about, a magnet from the motorand plugging into the controller. I havent been able to contact the previous owner as yet. There isnt a wire coming from the motor to plug in the controller. I wondered if he got the wrong motor or failed to put it on. I didnt know for sure if it requires one.

Ordered a new speed sensor magnet. Hooked right into the motor & controller, no hassles and NO FIX. Thanks for all who commented. Gonna call this a loss, sadly.

I had similar issues with a 2001 PDS. Difference was that mine would never go over 5 mph. Had all the power up to 5mph and that was it. Racked my brain on it for couple days, then bit the bullet and took to local repair shop where they had a used controller for $300 and problem solved. May not be your problem. Repair man told me to ALWAYS put in tow mode before any work is done on cart. When you put it in troubleshoot mode does its give you any codes?

If you have a 1206MX Curtis Controller, it relies on a signal input from the speed sensor on the back end of the motor ( held in by a snap ring ) Without that signal, it will do just as you describe, run for a few seconds and go into a limp home mode. There should be a sensor pigtail off the end of the motor away from the spline drive end. If not, then you have a mismatch between motor and controller. The sensor pigtail should plug into J5 on the controller. J2 is for an optional personality jumper and will operate with or without anything plugged there.
