The RXV uses regen braking only, which won't completely stop a cart with a DC motor, so there is the additional expense of adding conventional brakes.

Do I need to expand my question to include types of motors? Upsides - downsides of replacing both? Seems like that may be the way to go!

Well that would be a bummer.

I think you would be better off to leave it at the curb with the key in it and hope ...
I call mine the Cart from hell cuz most of the times it will go but every once in awhile it wont.Just like one time I tried everything but it wouldn't go so I drove back home,57 mi round trip,to pick up my trailer.Loaded it up and took it to a dealer, another 47 mi. and he says, does it run ?no,we pushed it on the trailer. He turns the key to on and the dang thing wants to go, arrrg. He puts his scanner on and there isn't any stored codes and he does the latest update. Tells me it's good to go and didn't charge me anything.
It happened about a week or so after that and I checked the battery pack voltage and it was good but just wouldn't go.I don't know why but I put the charger on it for a few hours and everything was fine.It has been working great ever since and that has been a long time ago. When I turn the key to on I listen for the click then a clunk then I know i'm good to go.No clunk and I think that is releasing the brake then I know i'm not going anywhere but so far so good.

i laugh at how that exploded with cheers of "alltrax!", then "wait, what happened?". the integrated brake system is likely the reason for zero aftermarket options for RXV (transfers liability for all braking duties from ezgo to manufacturer of new controller, lawyers be like "Nah").
