If the OEM controller cover is in place you have a stock or modified stock control which is trapped under the airtight cover. It's time for you to consider upgrading to an aftermarket Alltrax control. Alltrax controls have many serious advantages over the OEM type.
1. Alltrax XCT is water proof = ditch the heat trapping cover.
2. They come in bigger sizes so they don't work as hard = less heat
3. They have optional cooling fans like you PC

that is stock..... Go with the controller Scotty has pictured in a 400 or 500 amp size.

Scotty can hook you up better than anyone I know and you will be slow cruising to your hearts content......

Thanks. I was told that the solenoid can be relocated from the controller and this will correct the heat to the controller. Is there any truth in this? Thanks for your help.

very little heat is caused by the solenoid. The bigger issue is the use you are asking of the controller. It was designed to be used on a cart that has stock tires and rides on basically flat ground at mid to full speed. You have oversized tires and are creeping through the woods/fields.

I thought I would try something so I took the cover off the controller and zip tied it back so that heat would not build up. I haven't made it stop yet but we have been making sure not to continuous ride for long periods. I did notice that the solenoid will get too hot to touch but the controller will be fairly cool, even the heat sink. Is the solenoid too small? Is there a relocation kit for the solenoid like is on the 2012 & later? I have 22" tires, will going to 20" tires make it cooler on the solenoid? Thanks,

Please, any response to this will be appreciated. Trying not to spend too much making this cart work. Will a larger solenoid work cooler? Thanks,

Read or re-read Rabbitreborn's post.

If your stock solenoid is getting too hot to touch, it ought to be replaced with a higher ampacity unit, but it is not causing the problem you are having.

If you want to run oversized tires and creep along at low speed, you will need to upgrade the entire drive system. Solenoid, controller and motor as well as the high current cables.

Even with stock height tires (18"), Stock PDS controllers will go into thermal cutback (Beep code 2-3) if you drive the cart at walking speed or slower.
