36v solenoid on 48v system
As the header says, yes, this is what i have going on right now so the life of it will be nice and short even though its supposedly the HD one
And with that being said would it be restricting any performance that cart could be missing out on? I need to buy a 48v and as i understand now it has to be a 400amp+ one being i have a 700amp controller so on so forth.. So is there any particular brand/place i should purchase one from? I checked carts unlimited and he seems to be out of stock at the moment |

There is no need to buy a 48v coil Solenoid.
You will need to add a 3+ amp diode with the banded side towards the battery post and connect it to the +16v battery post. Run that wire to the negative side of your solenoid. That will provide the solenoid with +32v (positive at +48v and negative at +16v), which is more than enough to activate a 36v solenoid (maximum pull-in voltage of a sw180 is around +25v). The diode is to prevent that wire from becoming a "power source" that could back-feed the system. Edit: Oops, did not see previous reply. |

Just giving you another option if the HD solenoid is good, but one wire and a 25 cent diode should not be too much trouble.

So I got the new solenoid in .. its installed .. it works .. but I still have the 36v diode... do I need the 48v one?

The resistor should be 470Ω and the diode should be 3a 1000v for 48 volts
