Default 2013 Club Car to go faster

I took my neighbor's 2013 Precedent to our local cart shop to see about getting it programmed to go faster and the tech said the controller in the cart was limited to 14.8 mph. and couldn't be changed. Since I only know about E-Z-GO, I was wondering if: A) I was being being told the truth and B) is there any other way to increase speed without changing the controller? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is speed code 3, a club car dealer can install speed code 4 19.6 mph, or depending on the serial number a speed magnet will increases to 20 or so.

Maybe not all "cart shops" can buy the speed 4 unlock codes from Club Car.

Either way find a different shop, that one is either clueless or misleading.

Can you tell me what specifically to look for in the serial number to determine which way to go in helping my neighbor? Our closest Club Car dealer is about an hour away, so "running" by there for information isn't easy.

Also, I watched a video about changing the speed magnet and it seems pretty simple and straight forward. Are there any special things I need to be aware of before tackling that project, if that's the way we have to proceed?

The shop I went to is a Yamaha dealer, but they say they work on all carts. Apparently not.

If you post the serial number we can tell if a speed magnet will work. Don't need the complete number just the first half

Club Car changed the system in 2013, models built prior to September have a S/N starting with P prefix and an OBC, newer models have a J prefix and a high frequency smart charger (ERIC).

Either one has a Controller that accepts a Speed Code 4.

The dealer needs to get the S/N from the controller and purchase the "unlock codes" from club Car specific to that S/N.

They will connect the programmer to the Controller and use the 3 x 3 digit codes purchased to unlock the "speed code 4" on your controller.

They will also place a sticker on the battery area with the 3 sets of codes for future reference. they also place another sticker on the dash saying this cart goes faster that stock golf cart (liability purposes).

They need to know what they are doing since if you enter the codes wrong more than 3 times the Controller gets locked and will no longer accept codes and Club Car will not refund your money.

The old IQ model that worked with a Speed Magnet was discontinued sometime in 2012.
