Default e-z-go 48 volt conversion

I am planning to convert my 2004 e-z-go series cart to 48 volt. I need a charger(one that will work with my e-z-go, I have the plug end I can add), I have a 36 volt powerwise I can trade or buy outright if price is right. I have a 2002 48 volt club car that has a lot more torque and speed, but I plan to sell it to complete my ezgo. The club car has 8 volt batts that are the same size, and would fit in the ezgo. I was told by the guy I bought the club car from that the 48 volt cart would have almost 1/3 more range that the 36 volt. I have to buy new batts for the ezgo anyway, so I thought I would go with 6-8 volt batteries. I have read that 8-6 volt batteries would have more range, but if it is true that the 6-8 volts have 33% more that 6-6 volts, that will be fine with me, and also lighter in weight. I want to buy an alltrax 400 or 500 amp controller later. Will my present controller work for now? Will I need a 48 volt relay? What else? The cart I an planning to convert is the one in the picture to the left. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I plan to use it for hunting/joy riding in hilly/muddy areas. WIll I need to upgrade the motor?

Thanks

Why is my 2002 club car faster than my 2004 e-z-go, and why does it have more torque? It is totally stock-straight off the golf course. It was not a course cart, but a privately owned cart. Is it the higher voltage, or the motor? The club car still has 6 gauge cables, my e-z-go has 4 gauge on the batts but 6 gauge everywhere else.

OK, I can understand that, what do you think about the 48 volt conversion?

well i am about to find out next week what a 36vcc motor run on 48v is gonna do. all i have heard so far is good things about it gonna try it out anyhow and post my results. using gps and seat of the pants feel for the torque and speed difference. my cart is all stock except for 4ga cables all the way. sounds like if you did the conversion with all the upgrades you might get more than me.

Thanks, Wilster, I think my ezgo is a series, what is regen? Are you going to change the solenoid to a 48 volt?

does your cart have a run tow switch? if so it is a regen meaning it has regenerative braking built into the motor. basically a safety feature. no to the solenoid my cart is 48v and i am changing motor to 36v and see what is up with this swap.

OK, I am planning to convert my 36v ezgo to 48 volt, but yes, my club car has the run/tow switch.
Thanks
