Talking Battery keeps going down

I am new to this wonderful website and have learned alot about my G1/G2 Yami. We don't even know what year it is, but it is old. We have had the cart for about 2 years now and except for a couple of new tires and a few minor things, we have had no problems with it until the past few weeks. We have just recently added a rear seat, head lights and also a power converter to use led lites during the holidays. This past week we went to move it from the rear yard up to the garage to put some lights on it and notice it was VERY sluggish, but it did go. After sitting in the garage for a couple more days and decorating it with lites, it would not move at all. Since the battery was 3 years old, we replaced it and it worked fine. However, after 20-30 minutes of using the headlites and 300 mini lites it started that sluggish moving. When running without the lites it was fine. Our old headlites were cheap led lites and we did replace them with headlites off of an old Yami and they are quite bright. I don't want to continute having to buy batteries at 90 bucks a crach, but I do so love my little cart. Any ideas where to start to see what the problem may be? Thanks a bunch!!!

Click on the link and see if you can figure out which cart you have, A G1 and a G2 are two different carts, G1 is 2 stroke, and the G2 is a 4 stroke, let us know what you find out

Welcome

Is the converter hard wired or switched?

Do you mix gas and oil or not? If not, its a G2.

And, if its a G2, I would start with cleaning all connections from the battery to the starter/generator then I would look at the starter/generator. Probably old and brushes are worn not charging the battery.

Since we don't mix gas and oil, I'm gonna assume it's a G2 then. And the converter is wired around the battery terminals. However, we used it on the 4th of July (converter hookup) and everything worked fine, but we did have the old smaller headlights on. And we have cleaned all the wires and such from the battery. Thanks for all the replys too. We are planning on taking it to Fort Wilderness the first week in Dec IF we can get it up and running properly.

G2's are one of the best carts out there in my opinion. You'll find though, that the older Yamaha's are very picky about clean connections, no grounding to the frame, backfiring due to throttle not closing all the way (simple adjustment), and air box leaks (maybe). If your starter/generator has never been replaced or rebuilt, the brushes are probably worn pretty good. Make sure all the rubber caps are on the end of the starter/generator too. Sometimes moisture can create a bad connection here as well. Just a suggestion.

The generator only charges 15A (roughly 200w), and only when the engine is running faster not at idle. My 55w (x2) driving lights are about all it likes to handle, they dim when I slow down to stop. But with a good battery it is not an issue if you don't leave them on with it not running or with it idling. I'd say charge your battery before you go, maybe bring a jumper pack, and get some headlights that take less power like larger/multiple LEDs or at least lower wattage maybe 30w for tractors or something like that.

Put a meter on your battery and check voltage, then start it up and rev the motor some it should climb to higher voltage if it is charging. Note a G1 you don't mix oil in the gas unless you took the oil injection off it. The easy way to tell is a G1 has reverse on the key by the steering and no 'gear shifter'.
