Default 94 CC DS Axle Growl

Hi All,
recently picked up this 94 DS cart for use on the farm. it makes a growling noise when moving that sounds like a brake shoe dragging (or motor growl maybe?). I can't seem to isolate it. I checked axle fluid and it is okay. This is not the whine motors often make, but a deeper growl that is loudly audible. Cart moves along okay and is a work cart -just don't want to hurt it. Any thoughts appreciated.
thanks in advance,
curt

Have you checked wheel & axle bearings?

Not yet. I have since found another thread on here that states worn spider cluster can also be the culprit http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...end-noise.html
Thanks Scotty, I'll check axle bearings and let you know.

These guys won't steer you wrong. However, keep in mind that a bad motor bearing on an electric golf car can wake the dead. It's a very cheap and easy fix. I usually change them with the motor still in the car.

Easy way to find sourse of sound would be to jack up rear of cart with plenty of tire clearance, place auto jack stands FLAT AND SOLID near spring mounts under axle housings, block front wheels in straight forward position with blocks at front and rear of tire SOLID. Then while some one operates cart at slow speed ( high RPM's will damage motor or destroy ) while you take a wooden yard stick and check at different points at one end while placing other end just under your ear ( this makes sound clear and adds vibration transfer ) To narrow down sound location. Some sound is ok as bearings and gears all make sounds. A rough rumbling sound should show location of problem.
