Default Intermediate steering shaft broken??

Long story short - off roading and hit a REALY big rut. Steering went out. Intermediate shaft looked broke at first.

Under the boot, where the splined top end goes into the female splined lower shaft - seperated right there.

Is this broke or fixable?

Colt,

Let me explain this a little more. The last weekend me and mrs lizard will be off together for 5 weeks - and thTs the weekend we fly out on vacation - let's go for a ride, babe.

45 minutes in, starting to get dark, everything is going great. Heading down the edge of a really overgrown field she says this is getting kind of tall (the scrub brush). I went to turn around and somehow got the front wheels in a rut and the back wheels in a rut crosswise. Posi track helped but still took a few minutes of digging to get out.

Made it about 20' tryin to get over the next set of ruts and all of a sudden - no steering. Grass was too tall, mrs lizard leg was slightly annoyed with the heat, bugs, mud and other various discomforts of our outing.

Taking pictures at that point wasn't in the game plan, trust me!

Then we had to walk the mile and a half or so out in the dark with no flashlight. In the south Louisiana heat and humidity.

Then I had to tell her this might be $$ or $$$$ to fix - won't know until I can get back out there tomorrow Ans get it home. Thank god she loves me as much as she does!

Pics tomorrow. Maybe. Depends on rather or not she decides to bury me beside it or not!

Scotty - yes. The intermediate shaft is in two pieces - the female spooned and and the male splined end are hanging seperately. Too dark and thick for me to make out much else until tomorrow.

Does this piece come undone under the boot?

That piece comes apart.... It's probably not broken just seperated. You'll have to pull each half off and then put them back together and then reinstall.

the only thing I can figure is your front end must have dropped quite a bit on one of the ruts to allow it to seperate like that..... There is about a half inch to an inch of material in contact at any point in time normally

Maybe you just lost the keeper bolt in the yoke?

Scotty, he's talking about under the boot. Unless they have changed it, it is just a male/female spline configuration. No bolts, no connectors. should be a simple fix to put it back together.
