Re: DC motors vs AC motors
Great info guys!
I was helping a friend a couple of months ago pick out a cart, he was going to use it for hunting and cruising around his property. We test drove an RXV EZ GO with good batterys and a lift kit. I think it had some 22's on it. I like the top end speed but the torque was bad IMO. I couldn't even get it to climb a 6" curb. It seemed like it would do better once it got moving? Now I really liked the regen braking. Steve |

Interesting. I'd be interested to hear how those rangers and BBB's perform then. Sounds like they are fast, but you'd think they would have to have some torque to still be successfully selling them to the UTV hunting/farming/work crowd.

Re: DC motors vs AC motors
TXBONDS,
We also test drove a 2011 BBB and I wasn't impressed with the torque either! Maybe they had everything tuned down? My Club Car had 3 times the torque the BBB had. But I also have my FSIP set for instant power? If I was building a cart I would get a 700 amp controller and have PQ build me a motor. Steve |

Re: DC motors vs AC motors
I've been running stock motor and 400amp controller on mine for 3 years with good slow speed torque and good speed. Just picked up a PQ motor and 500 amp controller that I'm working on installing. I should be good on torque for my use, which is neighborhoods and not hunting, but the AC sales pitch sure has intrigued me over the years.

Re: DC motors vs AC motors
Got my ac cart running tonight ( on jack stands since I have the brakes disconnected). And it is spinning about 3500 rpm - wish I had an idea what this would translate into speed on 12 inch tires and low profile tires -..........I will say it is one hell of a lot faster than stock!

If that is motor RPM, what is the differential gear ratio? (RXV is 16.99:1) What are the numbers on the tires? The 12 inch part is the wheel size, and it is tire height that determines speed. IE: A 215/30-12 is only 17" tall and stock tire height is 18" |

With the same motor, a cart with 16.99:1 gears would have less speed and more torque where rubber meets the road than a cart with 12.49:1 gears. FWIW: The stock EZGO TXT gears are 12.44:1. |

Re: DC motors vs AC motors
Okay so I had the ratio backwards then. I was thinking lower number would mean more torque. So, it's still a mystery then........l.
