So if I understand correctly, I can take off the pump and put my finger over the hole where the pump was seated. If I crank the engine I should feel suction at this point?

Well I put in the new fuel filter and it started right up. Ran it for about 5 minutes it was putting out a little white smoke. Let it sit for 10 minutes and tried to start it again and it won't fire ??

What was causing the white smoke? Is the fuel oil mix too rich?

Got it, I bet my mix is too rich. I'll clean out the carb again and see if that does the trick. I now know the pump works, hoses are good , new filter, so pretty much all that is left is bad plug or carb dirty.

I still think the crank seals are bad from sitting awhile. Put the rear upon jack stands and spray wd40 around the seal behind the drive clutch and if it trys to start then the seals are bad. Its best to change bothe front and rear at the same time. The front is under the flywheel.

Finally got somes pictures. The only one you can check is this one by the primary clutch. Make sure that you put the rear up on jack stands so you don't have a run away cart. Spray some wd40 at the seal while cranking it over. It will try to start or if its running it will change tone or pitch. You can't check the front one but you want to change in pairs.
