470 Ohm resistor purchase
I am making the 48 Volt jump and know I need the larger 470 ohm resistor. Is my only option to order them? I can not seem to find a 470 Ohm 10 Watt resistor anywhere locally, or at least the places i am calling, namely Radio Shack. They keep the 1/4 watt ones, but that just seems too small. I know random people need this kind of stuff around town all the time and I just don't know who to call.
Thanks |

Re: 470 Ohm resistor purchase
I bet the only place LOCAL would be a chart shop.....but if you don't have one of those close.....you could just do as Olman did and order it. You could most likely get one from Scotty, or a lot of other site sponsors....I know ALTRAX carries them as well.

Re: 470 Ohm resistor purchase
Well I THOUGHT I could just go pick one up, but should have included it in my order with Scotty when i ordered the charger. My local EZGO shop is no more, and the CC is not really all that close, but may have to make a road trip to get one. Found a few online, but to order is $1.50 for the resistor and $5 for shipping and get it who knows when!
Side note, is everyone's white square and creamic looking? |

Re: 470 Ohm resistor purchase
Looking at the schematic of a PDS cart in the stickies, it looks like that resistor's function is to limit the inrush current into the capacitors of the controller when the batteries are first connected. It also supplies the controller with current even when the contactor is off.
Appreciable power should then be dissipated on that resistor ONLY if the contactor is off AND the controller has an internal short. In that case, with the batteries at max voltage (57.6V for a 48V system), it would be ~7W. The ceramic block 10W resistors are expensive though. You could use a cheaper wirewound resistor of 7W like this one: http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...70CT-ND/596816 |
